Events are occasionally organized depending on levels of interest including small tournaments and lectures. The evening is aimed at beginners and those new to club chess, however experienced players also attend and give advice! Visitors fee is reduced to $3 on Tuesdays. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR: MCC Grand Prix Throughout the year, MCC ‘traditional time control’ FIDE rated events form the MCC Grand Prix, whereby a player’s scores from all 9 events will add up to form a grand prix score at the end of the year. The tournaments included are: Australia Day Weekender (Jan 26th – Jan 29th) MCC Club Championship (Feb 6th – Apr 16th) ANZAC Day Weekender (Apr 21st – Apr 25th) City Of Melbourne Open (Apr 30th – Jul 2nd) Edwin Malitis Memorial (Jul 16th – Aug 27th) MCC Open (Sep 10th – Nov 12th) MCC Cup Weekender (Nov 2nd – Nov 6th) Bob Brooking Round Robins (Nov 19th – Dec 17th) Christmas Swiss (Dec 14th – Dec 16th) Every point a player scores in any of these events, equals a grand prix point, for example if a player scores 5.5 points in the club championship and 4 points in the City of Melbourne, they will have accumulated 9.5 points over the two events. At the end of the year, the players with the highest number of points will win the grand prix prizes. Extra events Occasionally we trial new events or add something in during vacant time slots.
