Nigel Short Lecture and Simul Enter Entries

Grandmaster Nigel Short, former World Championship challenger, has offered to give a simultaneous display and a one-hour lecture at Melbourne Chess Club on Wednesday, 16 March 2016 at 6:30pm.

Born in 1965, Nigel was a child prodigy who quickly established himself as the leading British player and one of the world’s chess elite in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1993, Nigel almost reached the pinnacle of the World Chess Championship, stopped only by the legendary Russian World Champion, Garry Kasparov.

As part of the Melbourne Chess Club’s 150th anniversary celebration, we invite all players to pit themselves against a world class chess Grandmaster with this unique opportunity! Seats are limited to 30 participants, so make sure to register and pay to guarantee your seat!

Conditions of entry:

  • All participants MUST have a good understanding of, and adhere to the rules of chess. During the match players must wait for GM Short to return to their board before making a move.
  • Payment of the entry fee to be made in full by 9 March 2016 to Melbourne Chess Club, 66 Leicester Street, Fitzroy 3065, by cash, cheque or direct bank deposit (Account Number available on request).
  • Entries will be capped at 30 participants. Positions are only guaranteed upon payment and are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
