MCC Open

Thai Ly was the judge for the MCC Open Brilliancy Prize, he had the following to say in awarding the prize:

[I've gone] through the games and have decided upon awarding the MCC Open brilliancy prize to Mehmedalija Dizdarevic for his win against Tristan Krstevski in round 2 of the tournament.

Generally, there was no game that really stood out as being of high quality and exceedingly brilliant.

However, the winning game was a good tussle between white's attacking initiative and black's relatively stout defence and, while not perfect (black could have struggled on with 38...Rxg6 39. hxg6 Qg5), finished with a nice tactical flourish sequence of 39. Qg4 Rc6 40. Rxc6 bxc6 41. Qg6+!.

Honorable mentions went to the following games:

- Ray Yang's miniature 17 move win as black against Dizdarevic;

- Marcus Ogden's win against John Beckman; and

- David Lacey's win against Felix Wyss.
