Monday night tournaments practically run back to back all year round. These tournaments are for the intermediate or advanced chess players, but have rating divisions where possible. All MCC Monday night tournaments are ACF and FIDE rated, traditional style long play events, one game per evening. They all qualify for MCC Grand Prix.
![]() Weekenders IntermediateAdvancedAll MCC long play weekend tournaments are ACF and FIDE rated, traditional style long play events. These tournaments are for intermediate and advanced player, but have rating divisions where possible. The weekenders also includes the MCC Allegro Championship, a short play event with 13 rounds.
![]() Saturday morning junior classes BeginnerSaturday morning during term time a 2 hour junior class is run from 10am - 12am. It is aimed at Junior players who want to progress from school level chess to club level. Suitable for beginners. The more advanced students may want to stay on to Saturday afternoon Allegro.

![]() Saturday afternoon allegro BeginnerIntermediateAdvancedEvery Saturday afternoon (starting at 2pm) the Melbourne Chess club hosts a light-hearted tournament suitable for most chess players. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to play but it may take a couple of weeks to get use to tournament play. Typically most of the beginners who play in the Allegro are transitioning to intermediate level players.
![]() Tuesday night endgame group IntermediateA group of chess players get together on Tuesday nights to study endgames. A lot of fun with no tournament pressure. Cost: Free for members, $5 for non-members. The endgame group is run by FM Bill Jordan Note that Bill will normally have opened the club some time between 7-7.30pm, but because he is coming from a long way away on the odd occasion he can be running late. Please call Bill on 0448 082 204 if the club is not open by 7.30pm.
![]() Wednesday novice night BeginnerNovice Night – a perfect introduction to club chess, consisting of mostly social play. Events are occasionally organized depending on levels of interest including small tournaments and lectures. This session is fairly informal, usually starting around 7.00. The evening is aimed at beginners and those new to club chess, however experienced players also attend and give advice! If you're on Facebook, please join our MCC Novice player group!
