MCC Grand Prix
Most weekenders and all Monday night tournaments are 2013 MCC Grand Prix events where 17 players share $2700 in prizes at the end of the year.

If you have never been to the club before then Saturday afternoon's (2pm before the Allegro) is a great time to turn up to see what we are about.
Monday night long play IntermediateAdvanced
Keep your Monday nights free for chess at MCC. Monday night tournaments practically run back to back all year round. These tournaments are for the intermediate or advanced chess players, but have rating divisions where possible.
All MCC Monday night tournaments are ACF and FIDE rated, traditional style long play events, one game per evening. They all qualify for MCC Grand Prix.

Weekenders IntermediateAdvanced

Saturday morning junior classes Beginner
Saturday morning during term time a 2 hour junior class is run from 10am - 12am. It is aimed at Junior players who want to progress from school level chess to club level. Suitable for beginners.
The more advanced students may want to stay on to Saturday afternoon Allegro.

Saturday afternoon allegro BeginnerIntermediateAdvanced
Every Saturday afternoon (starting at 2pm) the Melbourne Chess club hosts a light-hearted tournament suitable
for most chess players. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to play but it may take a couple of weeks to get use to tournament play. Typically most of the beginners who play in the Allegro are transitioning to intermediate level players.

Tuesday night endgame group Intermediate
A group of chess players get together on Tuesday nights to study endgames. A lot of fun with no tournament pressure.
Cost: Free for members, $5 for non-members.
The endgame group is run by FM Bill Jordan.
Wednesday novice night Beginner
Novice Night – a perfect introduction to club chess, consisting of mostly social play. Events are occasionally organized depending on levels of interest including small tournaments and lectures.
The evening is aimed at beginners and those new to club chess, however experienced players also attend and give advice!
Cost: Free for members, $5 for non-members.
Thursday night openings group Intermediate
We welcome players of all levels to join our group and discuss and learn openings from both a theoretical and practical perspective.
Interesting openings are examined and then players may try out the openings themselves. Players are also invited to ask questions about specific openings.
This collaborative group meets every Thursday from 7.00pm at the Melbourne Chess Club. 66 Leicester St. Fitzroy, 3065.
Cost: Free for members, $5 for non-members.

Novelty events BeginnerIntermediateAdvanced
MCC hold various novelty events during the year. These are put on by passionate club members who run and organise them. Please contact the organiser if you want to know more.
Please note that some club members create their own novelty chess events. Please ask the committee if you wish to do so.
